Dr Steven Wise has been presented the prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Marshall and Warren Award.
The Marshall and Warren Award recognises the most innovative research project that could change the way an illness or disease is diagnosed, treated or prevented, from among all the applications nominated for this award in each year’s NHMRC Project Grants.
Dr Wise leads the Applied Materials group at the Heart Research Institute, focusing on developing the next generation of translatable bioactive materials – materials that can bond to living tissues – to provide better treatment options for people with cardiovascular disease.
Dr Wise is one of 23 of Australia’s most outstanding researchers honoured at this year’s NHMRC annual Research Excellence Awards held in Canberra. The awards recognise excellence in the health and medical research sector and the exceptional contributions of Australian researchers to their fields of research.
“These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary quality of health and medical research in Australia today,” says NHMRC CEO, Professor Anne Kelso AO.
