Professor Leonard Kritharides has recently been welcomed as the new Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) President.
Professor Kritharides has held various positions on the CSANZ Board, including the Chair of Scientific Committee and Chair of the Advanced Training Committee. He is Head of Department and Director of Cardiology at Concord Repatriation General Hospital Sydney, Professor of Medicine at The University of Sydney, Head of the Atherosclerosis Research Laboratory Group at the ANZAC Research Institute, and Deputy Clinical Director of the Cardiovascular Stream of the Sydney Local Health District. He is Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Heart Research Institute.
Professor Kritharides was awarded a NSW Government Community Services Award for his contribution to Concord Repatriation General Hospital in 2006, the President’s Medal for contributions to the CSANZ in 2013, and the Distinguished Researcher Award by the Australian Vascular Biology Society in 2014. He is currently Chair of the Research Strategy Committee of the National Heart Foundation, and Chair of the Specialist Training Committee in Cardiology of the Royal Australian College of Physicians.
The Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand is the professional body for cardiologists and those working in the area of cardiology including researchers, scientists, cardiovascular nurses, allied health professionals and other healthcare workers.
The Society is the chief advocacy group for the profession and aims to facilitate training, professional development and improve medical practice to enhance the quality of care for patients with cardiovascular disease.
