The CEO and Scientific Director of the Heart Research Institute (HRI), Prof Andrew Coats AO, has been announced as a Highly Cited Researcher for 2023 by Clarivate, which is the most prestigious researcher list in the world.
Every year, analysts compile the list to recognise the most influential scientists and social scientists worldwide who have demonstrated significant contributions to their fields.
“I am proud to receive this award, and (belatedly) join my very good friend and colleague Mathew Vadas, Director of Science Strategy at HRI, who was on the very first list Clarivate published,” Prof Coats said. “This recognition highlights the impact and importance of the world-class research carried out at HRI.”
Prof Coats was one of 6,849 researchers from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 nations and regions recognised in 2023.
The evaluation and selection process for Highly Cited Researchers draws on data from the Web of Science citation index, together with analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Science Information (ISI) at Clarivate.
“We celebrate the Highly Cited Researchers whose contributions transform our world by helping to make it healthier, more sustainable and more secure,” said Bar Veinstein, President of Academia and Government at Clarivate.
“Recognition of Highly Cited Researchers not only validates research excellence but also enhances reputation, fosters collaboration, and informs resource allocation, acting as a beacon for academic institutions and commercial organisations.”
Prof Coats is an experienced academic leader and entrepreneur with three decades of international experience in four of the world’s top 50 universities. He has over 750 peer-reviewed full papers, over 160,000 career citations and an H-Index of 158.
He has been named one of the top 1,000 researchers of all time by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities for two years running, and is the author of more than 20 awarded patents.
