Biography

Calum Nicholson is the Senior Data Analyst with the Clinical Research Group at the Heart Research Institute (HRI).

He begun work with HRI in 2018 as a research assistant, participating in clinical research with a focus on vascular functioning. Since 2020, his work has primarily focused on managing the data collection and data analyses for the National Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Registry. He is also completing a PhD in this area, outlining the process of establishing and utilising the National CHD Registry. The development of this registry began in 2016, and is a centralised registry for CHD patients to better understand the impact of CHD in Australia and its prevalence.

Calum completed a Master of Health Data Science with UNSW in 2021, where he developed a clinical planning tool that used geographic analysis to determine optimal clinic placement for Adult Congenital Heart Disease Services in New South Wales.

Ongoing, Calum has an interest in developing research data infrastructure for public health purposes and applying advanced analytic techniques to better understand disease populations and improve access to healthcare.
