The Heart Research Institute (HRI) is delighted to announce that it is one of 13 world-class medical research institutes to receive funding from the NSW Government’s flagship Medical Research Support Program (MRSP).

The $160 million program will help institutes across NSW, like HRI, strive for excellence in health and medical research by funding the indirect costs of research, such as equipment and staff.

Professor Andrew Coats AO, CEO and Scientific Director of HRI, welcomed the announcement and invaluable support that will help his team continue their important work.

“The Heart Research Institute is committed to delivering breakthrough cardiovascular research, identifying better diagnostics, treatments and cures to address the leading cause of death globally, cardiovascular disease,” he said.

“We commend and thank the NSW Government for its ongoing commitment to supporting medical research, and in turn, enabling advances in health outcomes, not only the people of NSW, but for all Australians and global populations that will benefit from the world-class research being delivered by NSW based medical research institutes.”

“We applaud the NSW Government for championing cardiovascular research, and for its consistent action in funding and facilitating research that is improving and saving the lives of people within NSW and beyond."

The program was announced by the Minister for Medical Research, The Hon. David Harris MP, during a visit to another grant recipient, Black Dog Institute.

“I am proud to announce the recipients of the NSW Government’s latest round of our flagship Medical Research Support Program, which will continue to support researchers in NSW to deliver ground-breaking health and medical research.

“The program is critical to continue the sustainable growth of the high performing medical research sector in NSW.

“By supporting these institutes to continue their remarkable work, we will position NSW as a global leader in medical research and support our talented researchers to blaze a trail and make a real difference to people’s lives.”
